Pumpkin Carving & Visiting the Witches!

I love the month of October, I feel like there's alot going on and I love being out and about doing fun things with the girls! Last week my mom and I took the girls to Gardner Village to see the witches and to get a few things for their halloween costumes this year. It was so fun and Kennedy had a blast with Grandma!

Every year we get together with our friends who live in our complex and have dinner & carve pumpkins at our place. It's such a fun night where we can eat, catch up and let the kids play. This year we added a couple more kids to our get together than we had last year. We love our neighbors and are lucky to have them as friends!

Lotoja 2010!

On Sept. 11 Chris rode in the Lotoja bike race where he rode on his bike from Logan, Utah to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. 206 miles in one day! It is still so amazing to me when I think about it and how tough he is! Anytime I'm working out and it begins to get really tough I think of Chris and say "if Chris can do 206 miles in one day I can get through this workout." He worked so hard to get ready for this race so it was so cool for me to see him doing so well throughout the entire ride. We were able to see him at a couple of places where the team stopped to eat, and everytime we saw him he looked so fresh and not at all like he had just been on his bike for 8+ hours. He did so great and I am so proud of him for doing such a great job! He must have enjoyed himself, because he's already gearing up for next year!

After Chris's race we were able to spend a couple of nights in Jackson. It is such a cool little town that is absolutely beautiful, this was my first time seeing it and I loved it!

Kennedy LOVES her new sister! She can't quite figure out that she is she yet though. It's always "he's cryin' mom" and "he's hungry mom." As many times as we correct her she hasn't gotten that part yet. She refuses to take any smiley pictures with anyone except Piper. Such a funny girl!

Chris is training for a big bike race called Lotoja that he's doing on Sept. 11 that goes from Logan up to Jackson Hole, so last weekend he rode in this race called the Ultimate Challenge with the other guys from his team. It was so fun to watch him come through the finish (with a smile on his face shockingly enough.) Me, the girls and Chris's mom were all there to watch him come through. He said it was one of the hardest rides he's ever done, but was so glad that he did it! I'm so proud of him for doing it and for how dedicated he's been to his training (much better than when he trains for a half marathon) We're so excited to watch him do Lotoja in a couple weeks!

*Piper's into the world story*

Just because someone has a scheduled c-section does not mean that everything goes according to plan. (Does it ever?) But that's ok, you take what you get when bringing a little one into the world. We showed up the morning of the 4th to get ready for surgery. Everything was going according to plan, the doctor was on time and ready to go just when he said we would. I got my anesthesia in my spine which I was very nervous for but it ended up not being bad at all. Once my legs started going numb is when I began to get panicked and nervous, and feeling like I couldn't breath. Before it even started I just wanted the surgery to be over. Once I was completly numb and they started cutting, it only took them about 5 minutes to get her out. Once she was out my nervousness and panicked feeling went away and I was fine as they stitched me up for the next 40 minutes. Knowing that she was out, safe, and crying made me feel so much better! The best sound while laying on that table was my sweet little Piper's cry, and I couldn't help but cry myself at how lucky I felt to have another healthy baby. Little did I know as I was lying there being stitched up that as they were pulling Piper out of my belly she took a large gulp of amniotic fluid into her lungs and she was having a hard time getting it back up. After 40 minutes of the nurses trying to get it out of her they took her to the NICU to see if they could get it out over there. Once my surgery was over they wheeled my bed back into my room to recover. 1 hour after Piper is born and Chris or I have still not held our new little baby, you can imagine how emotional I am by this point. Another hour passes and it's time for me to be wheeled up to my actual recovery room which would be my home for the next 3 nights. On our way there the nurses who were pushing my bed made a little detour over to the NICU to see our little sweetheart where I FINALLY got to hold her for the first time! Not an ideal way to meet my baby for the first time, but by that point I would take it any way I could get it. Her breathing was still to rapid for us to take her with us, so we left Piper there and headed up to our room. Tear filled eyes and all! Later that night around 7:30 (7 hours after she was born) Chris and I were in our room by ourselves (our families had all gone home, we told them we'd call them if we got any news when she'd be able to be released) when we heard a knock on our door and a "Do I have a suprise for you guys!" The next thing we know our little Piper is being wheeled into our room to stay. We couldn't have been more excited for our unexpected suprise. And Chris was SO excited to hold his little girl for the first time. In the end it could have been so much worse and I'm so grateful it wasn't, but when you hear the word NICU right after giving birth it's a really scary feeling no matter what they're going in for. I'm so grateful that she is healthy and breathing perfectly now! I couldn't ask for anything more!

The hospital stay has been great, my mom has brought Kennedy up to visit a couple times a day for every day we've been here (But it has been so hard being away from her this long.) She loves her new baby sister but is not so keen on me right now, she pretty much wants nothing to do with me. Hopefully once we get home that will change.

Piper is such a good baby! She loves her sleep, she's a great little eater, and a fabulous little pooper. Which are 3 great qualities for babies so I'm happy! I'm ready to get out of the hospital and go home, which is what we're getting ready to do.

If I haven't posted what my new little girl's name is going to be, it is Piper. And she will be joining our family in 3 short days. Very Exciting! We decided to take a few pictures with her name on my belly (my mom's idea) and it turned out very cool! Chris is quite the artist!
